4 phase to implement ISO 9001:2008
How do we start? There are too many things to do for a company to get its system certified and implemented. I break down the actions into 4 major phases.
1.Initial - Strategic Planning
This phase includes:
- identifying manpower planning for management representative and internal auditors
- setting up a committee team and define their roles
- awareness training to management and working committees
- establish a register of quality documents to be developed and
- launching the programme.
2.Phase 2 - System development
- preparation and development for the corporate and also project documentation,
- implementation of system being developed
- awareness training
- start selecting and applying for certification body.
3. Phase 3 - System Implementation and evaluation
- audit the implementation of your quality system by internal auditors at corporate office and project offices.
- take corrective actions.
- review procedures.
- conduct suppliers and subcontractors review
- conduct management review meeting.
- confirm with certification body on the document audit.
4. Final phase -Certification
- Formal issue of the system
- Audit by certification body.
Put your planning into a diagram and get the top authority to approve. Stick to your plan and inform the management and ISO committee team regularly on the progress. During early phase you may want to conduct a meeting with your committee members on a weekly basis. Get at least one people from different departments to be trained as an internal auditor. Take note that an internal auditor must be a competence person. Invest in training for your potential staff.
The diagram below show a sample of certification program that you can illustrate for a better understanding. Stick to your plan and update any changes.
